We need to hear from you!

“There is nothing permanent except change.”

November 22, 2018

Greetings and gratitude from Aprovecho –

Hope you’re enjoying the start of the holiday season!

Aprovecho is a non-profit organization located in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, on a beautiful 40-acre land trust outside of Cottage Grove, Oregon. Since its founding in 1981, Aprovecho’s land and its community of educators has been a regional resource for researching, demonstrating, and educating the techniques & strategies of sustainable living.

After more than 35 years of building a global network of both students and educators, Aprovecho’s rich history includes the following successes: (1) development of fuel efficient cookware technology (based on Rocket Stove Design principles) that is used all over the world today; (2) education of thousands of students in Permaculture design, natural building, appropriate technology, and sustainable forestry; and (3) inspired people around the globe to live a more sustainable and regenerative lifestyle. We give thanks to all our supporters over the years!

Over this past year, the organization’s Board of Directors has been busy evaluating Aprovecho’s evolution and assessing its impact over the decades. While there is so much to be proud of, it has also had its own share of struggle. These challenges have led the Board to wind down the organization’s activities and go into hibernation. It is now time for Aprovecho to shutter its doors — and soon re-open to make room for something new that is more responsive to our world today. Our world needs an ecological transition towards a more sustainable economic and social model, and we must be part of this critical transition.

With that, we are very pleased to announce our plans to re-envision and launch a new community organization, which will build upon some of Aprovecho’s legacy as well as expand its programming, partnerships, and constituents. We are focused on organizational change and transformation, a new vision and mission, and intentional collaborations with groups like youth and families, our local indigenous community, communities of color, and working class/low-income communities. We need to address and better serve local community needs while still having a global reach — BUT we cannot do this without hearing from YOU first.
