Experienced gardeners will tell you, we are not farming the plants and crops for productivity and health, but rather, the soil itself; and most importantly, the organisms dwelling within that soil. For without those hard working soil microbes and macrophytes, our gardens just could not be productive and definitely not healthful.
Come learn the basics about what those soil microorganisms do, who they are, how they work, and most importantly how we can become better soil farmers and microbe managers. Compost is a big part of this story, so we will learn about the composting process, what works and what doesn’t, and then practice making a demonstration compost pile. We will also discuss compost teas and amendments, vermiculture, and other ways to improve the vitality within our soils and therefore within our foods.
