SUSTAINABLE ANIMAL HUSBANDRY
February 12, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm$25 – $50
Looking to start a farm business, small business, or cottage industry? Want to spend your days outside, learn land stewardship skills, start a collective, raise your own meat, produce your own raw milk, or do something no else has thought of yet? Whether you already have animals or you want to start, there is so much to know about care-taking animals, making and selling animal products, and closing the loop of land management!
In this class with Branch Road Farm’s Andhi Reyna you’ll learn about polycultures and diversifying with animals, knowing your land, choosing suitable animals, and how to choose housing, fencing, and equipment. You’ll learn holistic nutrition, health strategies and herbal remedies for livestock. We will look at pastures, forbes and browsing, and closing the nutrient cycle by focusing on manures, compost, and soil fertility. We will also cover all stages of breeding, birthing, and milking, including the beginnings to processing milk, and making cheese and soaps.
Workshop cost with online registration in advance is $25-$50 sliding scale; cost at the door is $30-$55. Please register at aprovecho.net/registration.
Scholarships are available once we meet our quota. Children under 12 are always free!
Herbal tea will be provided. Please wear warm clothing!
