Summer/Fall Session
August 3rd – November 22nd
This internship is designed to get individuals started with the skills and experience necessary to offer natural building services as a future designer/builder/educator. Spanning the summer and fall seasons of building-focused programming, interns will work directly with Aprovecho’s building team constructing and maintaining Aprovecho’s campus. In addition, interns will have the opportunity to assist and participate in the following courses: “Sustainable Shelter Workshop Series,” “Natural Building Practicum,” the weekend Natural Building courses and the Sustainable Livelihood course.
Interns should leave this program with increased confidence with a variety of natural building techniques including dry-stone walls, timber and round-pole framing, light-clay straw, strawbale, cob, clay and lime-based plasters and finishes, earthen floors and more. Interns should also leave confident in their understanding of business basics as they consider next steps toward offering natural building as a service.
All Aprovecho’s courses take place on a beautiful 40 acre campus in the foothills of the Oregon Coast Range. Interns will stay either in a large heated wall tent or their own personal tent. All interns have access to plentiful indoor space including a large common room, showers, kitchen and library as well as hiking trails and relaxation space. While educational programs are running (most of the time,) there are three prepared meals a day during the week. Weekends and off-time, Interns have access to Aprovecho’s consistently stocked pantry and garden.
Sliding Scale: $4975 – $5495 ($500 deposit)
