How to get college credit
for Aprovecho's coursework

Directly through Your Institution
Many institutions, particularly liberal ones, offer credit for “internship” “field work” “place-based study” “experiential-learning” “etc.” The internship at Aprovecho has been construed as all of these things in the past. The Internship Coordinator will have no problem writing a letter or filling out an evaluation to confirm your participation in our program in order to help you receive credit for the internship. You will have to talk to your advisor, registrar, office of whatever, to figure out the procedure at your school for such programs. It is sometimes difficult to wade through, but worth it. The other option is to get credit through Humboldt State University Extension Program for your work at Aprovecho, and transfer that credit to your university (see below).

Or

Indirectly through Humboldt State University Extension Program
The procedure below ensures that HSU accredits your internship/study at Aprovecho. Your university should accept HSU accreditation as transfer credit. To them, your internship/study at Aprovecho is equivalent to classes with HSU. You would then just transfer your credits from HSU to your university.

Upon acceptance to the Aprovecho Internship program
1. Notify the Intern Coordinator that you are interested in receiving university credit through HSU
2. Tell the Intern Coordinator your social security number to put on the class roster
3. HSU requires 40$ administration fee per unit

The courses you can get credit for with HSU

1.5 units Engineering X280 (appropriate technology)
.5 units Engineering X280 lab (appropriate technology)
1.5 units Forestry X280
.5 units Forestry X280 lab
-----------------------------
4 total units x 40$/unit = 160$
[they have yet to accredit organic gardening, but you will still take those classes]

You can pay for the credits by money order, check, mastercard, visa, or discover. If you want to pay by money order or check, please send it to Aprovecho. If you want to pay by credit card, please email or call the Intern Coordinator with the card number and expiration date.
